Case Studies: Printed Circuit Board Repair

Case Study 1:

circuit board repair

The Challenge:
A contract manufacturer needed to replace a microprocessor from a newly designed motherboard on a product they were building. The manufacturer lacked the equipment and personnel necessary to perform this task. The situation was business critical. A multi-million dollar contract was on the line.

The SabeRex Solution:
The PCB Group at Saberex works closely with several motherboard manufacturers and had recently worked with this type of motherboard. We had the knowledge, technical skill, and experience to perform this task.
We received the call at 10:30 in the evening. We informed the client that we could effectively complete this task. The client only had one motherboard and one microprocessor so we only had one chance to get it right. The following morning we began to use the processes to remove the elastic sealant that covers the motherboard. By noon we were able to apply oscillating temperatures to the chip itself and were able to breakdown both the silicon glue and the solder ball resistance. From this point we were able to cleanse the BGA pad, reset the new chip and encase the laptop properly. We delivered a fully functioning motherboard to the customer.

The Result:
The client was able to secure a manufacturing contract valued at approximately $10 Million.

Case Study 2:

The Challenge:
One of the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturers was being crippled by its growing requirements for technical services: Thousands of boards and systems utilized in preproduction validation were in a consistent mode for upgrading. This work load was tripling. Assembly and upgrades for several hundred seed systems operating globally was required. Expanded failure analysis requirements were growing exponentially.

The SabeRex Solution:
Over the period of two years, step by step, the entire technical services operation was outsourced to Saberex. Initially Saberex placed personnel and equipment on-site to off-set workload back-logs. NDAs were put in place to more closely integrate Saberex services with parts buying, failure analysis and repair services. Specialized shipping procedures were implanted. IT systems were built by SaberData and implemented to handle work flow requirements and reporting. Weekly and quarterly planning sessions managed the project flows. Today we continue to implement more of the critical and highly technical pre-production testing and failure analysis.

The Result:
The client now has a scalable technical services operation which delivers the utmost in cost optimization, coupled with unlimited engineering resources.
